Changing scheduling options

It is fine to switch scheduling options in Luna. You might, for example, want to review collections every few days to begin with, but then switch to every day as an exam gets closer to really make sure you are prepared.

However, it’s good to know exactly how Luna does things when you make a change.

Switching from a smart schedule to a fixed interval schedule

Luna’s smart schedule work out how frequently you should review each card in a collection based on the card confidence and how long ago you last reviewed it. So each card is scheduled differently and you might have some to review tomorrow and others in a couple of days time.

Luna’s fixed interval schedules are set for the whole collection. So if you choose to schedule a review for every Wednesday, you will review every card in the collection once a week, on a Wednesday.

When you change from a smart schedule to a fixed interval schedule, Luna effectively just acts as if you’ve created a new collection and will set the next review date for whenever the new custom schedule dictates. It doesn’t matter when individual cards were due to be reviewed in the previous smart schedule, the whole collection just follows the new schedule. However, you can specify when that new schedules starts using the start date field.

So, if we go back to scheduling a review for every Wednesday, and today is Wednesday but you don’t think you need to do one today, simply set the start date for next Wednesday. Actually, you could set the start date for tomorrow as Luna works out when the next Wednesday is, so whatever makes most sense to you.

Switching from a smart schedule to an increasing intervals schedule

As with the scenario above, when you change from a smart schedule to an increasing intervals schedule, Luna effectively just acts as if you’ve created a new collection and will set the next review date accordingly.

For an increasing intervals schedule, that means the first review is set for today. Then tomorrow. Then two days after that. And so on with each interval doubling in duration.

Each review will be for the whole collection, regardless of how confident you are with individual cards. It also doesn’t matter when individual cards were due to be reviewed in the previous smart schedule, the whole collection just follows the new schedule.
